Nikdo není ochoten položit život za evropskou vlajku v zákopech nebo na barikádách. Navíc zde neexistuje dostatečná podpora pro vytvoření Spojených států evropských jako federální unie Evropy a v Evropě. Národní stát jako převládající a primární forma politické společnosti s námi zůstane v dobrém i ve zlém. To je realita. Naším úkolem bude, aby s námi zůstal spíše v dobrém nežli ve zlém.
The European flag is not the one to die for either in the trenches or at the barricades. Moreover, there is not enough support for the creation of the United States of Europe as a Federal Union in and of Europe. Nation-State as a prevailing and primary form of political society will remain with us, for better or worse. That is the reality. Our task will be to make it a force rather for the better than for the worse.
